About Brandboxx Salzburg

History and hard facts

Being Austria’s largest fashion wholesale center and the only Shoe Order Center in the country, Brandboxx embodies the Austrian fashion and lifestyle sector. The trade fair organizer can look back on a long, illustrious history.

 

Brandboxx Salzburg then and now

1981

  • Foundation of the MGC Textil- und Modegrosshandelscenter Salzburg by KR Leopold Böhm as a cash & carry center (43,000 sq ft space, 6,600 of which was rented out, 52 tenants)

 

1983

  • Tenancy decrease to 16 tenants and 6,500 sq ft space
  • Take-over of the MGC by W.D Kepplinger as troubleshooter
  • Re-orientation as new presentation platform (order center, site center, exhibition center)
  • Strengthening of the market presence through brand grouping
  • Showrooms: women’s, men’s, children’s fashion, accessories, sports goods, sports fashion, lifestyle
  • Exhibition area: shoe and leather goods, fabrics, children’s products

 

1985

  • New construction octagon, second floor + first floor in the s&f (6,500 sq ft)

 

1987/1988

  • Conversion of the exhibition space, fourth floor (9,800 sq ft)

 

1990

  • Annex B2 (16,400 sq ft)

 

1992

  • Another extension of the exhibition space (6,500 sq ft)

 

1994

  • New construction MEC (today’s Events & Exhibition Center) as an exhibition center (7,294 m²)
  • Deconstruction of the MGC exhibition rooms to showrooms
  • Extension of the fair portfolio
  • Fully booked MGC (19,000 m²)

 

1999

  • New construction hall B first floor + B second floor + B gallery (8,750 sq ft)
  • MEC becomes fair and event center
  • Expansion with the business areas events, balls, seminars, congresses, company presentations, public fairs

 

2004

  • MGC/MEC gets a new look (front façade entry hall, wings as a visual improvement)

 

2006/2007

  • New adaptation hall C + hall D

 

2007

  • Expansion with the business area Shoe Order Center (SOC)

 

2008

  • Director Kepplinger retires from the company after 25 successful years of management
  • Take-over of the MGC/MEC by TCN and re-naming to Brandboxx Salzburg
  • MGC becomes the Sports & Fashion Center, MEC becomes the Events & Exhibition Center under Dutch management

 

2013

  • Markus Oberhamberger becomes the new managing director of Brandboxx Salzburg

 

2013-2018

  • Start of an extensive reconstruction program in both the technical and the visual field
    • Replacement of all the building water boilers
    • Renewal of the underground parking facility
    • Air conditioning replacement in the SOC
    • Technical adjustment of the lifts
    • Fire precautions
    • Partial reconstruction roof and lightning protection facilities
    • Fresh asphalt coating of the outside areas
    • Renewal of the outer façade and the windows

 

2018

  • Top brand portfolio in the s&f and soc operating at full capacity (225 tenants, 82,000 sq ft rented-out space)
