Brandboxx Salzburg, then and now
The MGC Textil- und Modegroßhandelscenter Salzburg is founded by KR Leopold Böhm as a cash & carry centre with 13,000 m2 of exhibition space, and 52 tenants who predominantly use the MGC for storage.
KommR Wolf Dieter Kepplinger takes over the MGC and reorients it as a presentation platform. The market presence is strengthened by industry bundling (sporting goods, fashion, accessories, jewellery) as well as a new presentation space for fashion for women, men & children, accessories, sporting goods, sports fashion & lifestyle goods.
A separate exhibition space is created for shoes & leather goods, fabrics and children’s products. Purchasing fairs for retailers begin, as well as the ÖSFA as a leading sporting goods trade fair behind the ISPO.
Construction of the new Octagon creates 2,000 m² of new presentation space for fashion items.
The high demand for fixed presentation space is met with another increase of the exhibition space on the 3rd floor, with an extra 3,000 m² exclusively for the sporting goods sector.
Construction of the B2 annex and another expansion of the exhibition space due to continuously high demand.
Construction of the new MEC (today’s Events & Exhibition Center) as an exhibition centre, conversion of the MGC exhibition rooms into showrooms with expandable 75 m² boxes for tenants.
Expansion of the trade fair portfolio for vacant periods, as well as diverse public trade fairs from a wide variety of sectors.
New construction of Hall B. The new incorporation of business events, balls, seminars, congresses, corporate presentations and public fairs turns the MEC into a trade fair and event centre.
The MGC/MEC gets a new look. The front-facing façade of the entrance hall with the wings is devised as a visual connection, and the trade fair and event rooms are adapted over the following years.
KommR Dir. Kepplinger leaves the company after 25 years of successful leadership. TCN takes over the MGC/MEC and renames it Brandboxx Salzburg. The MGC becomes the Sports & Fashion Center, and the MEC becomes the Events & Exhibition Center under Dutch management.
Markus Oberhamberger is named new managing director of Brandboxx Salzburg.
Start of an extensive technical and visual restructuring programme to meet the quality demands of tenants and visitors. As well as modernising the utilities management and fire protection, investments are made in restorations of the outdoor areas, roof, and renewal of the outer façade and windows. In addition, the embankment of the Plainbach is broadened to allow for flood protection.
Top brand portfolio in the full-capacity s&f and soc (225 tenants, 25,000 m² of rented space).
The traditional costume fair gets a new home at Brandboxx. The combination of traditional costume showrooms and exhibitors in the Events & Exhibition Center make Brandboxx the largest international purchasing platform for the traditional costumes industry.
Brandboxx Salzburg reaches full capacity with 600 brands, 20 annual self-hosted fairs, and 6,500 m² of event space for events, from IT congresses and gala evenings to car shows, events, concerts, product presentations & company Christmas parties. Completion of the extensive visual and technical adaptations in indoor and outdoor areas and general building restoration. Restoration of the underground parking facility and further expansion of the e-charging area. Brandboxx Salzburg is once again state-of-the-art and ready for the future.
