Before it begins

Breathtakingly beautiful rock walls beckon with so many small and large challenges. However, before you tackle the climbing routes in Salzburg, you should complete a basic course and familiarize yourself with this sport. The Salzburg Alpine Club ( www.alpenverein-salzburg.at ) offers courses for beginners and advanced learners on different terrains. In the Hallein bouldering hall ( www.boulderhallein.com ) familiarize yourself with the indoor version. It’s even easier with the right equipment. The following should always be in your luggage:

Müllner Schanze

Behind the Bräustübl Mülln, twelve routes with levels of difficulty 1 to 6+ are waiting to be conquered. The free, publicly accessible routes are ideal for testing your own climbing skills. Complemented by numerous other stations, its own rope climbing garden and facilities for bouldering and slacklining, one of the most attractive climbing options in the entire Salzburg city area awaits you here.

Climbing garden on the Plombergstein

In the heart of the Salzkammergut, the Plombergstein awaits you in St. Gilgen with a climbing garden for every taste. Routes screwed in rows from 3 years of age are suitable for all ages and levels of experience. Grippy rock slabs and well-secured pitches invite you to have your first climbing experience in open terrain. Even experienced climbers will find their master on the endurance routes.

City Wall Linzergasse

Freedom is at home above the roofs of the city of Salzburg. Via ferratas in various degrees of difficulty adorn the City Wall in Linzergasse next to the Glockengasse parking garage. Four routes with their own practice and beginner climbs suit every climbing experience. Routes 1 and 2 should only be tackled by experienced climbers. The reward for the effort: a breathtaking view of the entire city from the lookout point on the Kapuzinerberg.
